The 2024 Dolores Town Cleanup is happening Monday, May 6th, through Wednesday, May 8th. Hospice of Montezuma invites you to be a gamechanger at its 22nd annual golf tournament fundraiser on Saturday, May 11th at Conquistador Golf Course. Mancos Days’ Beach Party Fundraiser is Saturday, May 11th at the Mancos Opera House featuring live music by Hip Hop is Dead, a silent auction, and awarding funds to local nonprofits. It's time for spring cleaning, fundraisers, and a Mancos beach party. Learn about May's upcoming events and Montezuma's newly-awarded fire mitigation grant. You're watching the "Local NEWS" roundup, brought to you by Big O Tires and Keesee Motors. I'm Connor Shreve. The 2024 Dolores Town Cleanup is happening Monday, May 6th through Wednesday, May 8th. You can bring items to be dumped or salvaged to the town yard on Central Avenue, along with proof of residency. Green waste will be picked up at the curb. Hospice of Montezuma invites you to be a game changer at its 22nd Annual Golf Tournament fundraiser on Saturday, May 11th at Conquistador Golf Course. The entrance fee is $80 per person, and all proceeds go directly to helping local families. The event will also include lunch and a silent auction. Mancos Days Beach Party Fundraiser is Saturday, May 11th, at the Mancos Opera House. The event will include dancing, live music by "Hip Hop is Dead, a silent auction, and awarding funds to local non-profits. Then mark your calendars for Mancos Days Beach Party, July 25th through the 28th. Visit the Mancos Days' website for more information. Counties in Colorado have received more than $7 million in grants for wildfire mitigation and management through the Forest Restoration and Wildfire Risk Mitigation Grant Program. Fourth of July Fun

Plan your 4th of July celebrations with a variety of events in the Four Corners area. The City of Cortez will host a fireworks show at Parque de Vida on July 4th, organized by the Cortez Fire Protection District, with special T-shirts available for purchase. For more fireworks, head to Farmington on July 3rd or Bloomfield on July 5th. Durango offers 30 different events from July 3rd to 6th, in collaboration with local organizations. Opinions about Land Use? Cortez Is Open to Feedback

The City of Cortez is updating its Land Use Code and is inviting community members to learn more and share their input. The local nonprofit Community Connections announced that it will be separating into two entities to accommodate regulatory changes and organizational growth. Cortez Celtic Fair Brings Highland Games, Music, and More

Later that evening, the Montezuma County Fairgrounds is hosting Monster Truck Militia. The Ute Mountain Roundup Rodeo celebrated its 94th year with flair and excitement. Philosophy Professor Justin McBrayer wins Fulbright Award

Fort Lewis College Professor Justin McBrayer has won a prestigious award from the Fulbright Program. McBrayer will spend a term in Italy both conducting research and teaching at the University of Genoa, Italy in 2025. This is the second time McBrayer has received an award from the prestigious Fulbright Program, which is “devoted to increasing mutual understanding between the people of the United States and the people of other countries.” McBrayer said the award will allow him to continue exploring the issue of misinformation and fake news. Cortez Makes Improvements to Parks and Pools

The City of Cortez Parks Department is holding a rededication ceremony on June 7th for two of the town’s pocket parks where new playgrounds were added last year. City of Cortez recreation pools have endured several infrastructure issues this season, including broken heaters. The Cortez Outdoor Municipal Pool is set to re-open to the public no later than June 10th. The Ute Mountain Roundup Rodeo is this weekend, Thursday, June 6th through Saturday, June 8th. Live Music Festivals and Road Closures for Memorial Weekend

The local music festival and community celebration Montezuma Rising is Sunday, May 26th. In addition to local music, food, and cider, this all-day event will highlight local nonprofits in Montezuma County with all profits benefiting the Mancos Grange. The 18th Annual Dolores River Festival is kicking off on Friday, May 31st at the Dolores River Brewery followed by a full day of live music on Saturday, June 1st at Joe Rowell Park. Due to the summer-long demolition project at Flanders Park, the Dolores Farmers Market will be held at Joe Rowell Park this summer. The first market is on Wednesday, June 5th from 4 to 7 p.m. The Colorado Department of Transportation would like to remind drivers that US Highway 550 will be closed to vehicles on Saturday, May 25th between Purgatory Ski Resort and Silverton for the Iron Horse Bicycle Classic.
