Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Olde Fashioned Christmas on Friday, Dec. 6 from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. The City of Cortez is establishing new office hours to give staff an early start to their weekend starting Monday, Dec. 2. The Shield 616 Angel Armor Vest presentation is coming up on Monday, Dec. 2nd. The Four Corners Board of Realtors 34th Annual Parade of Lights is accepting entries for parade participants through Thursday, Nov. 30 at 5:00 p.m. The parade will be held on Main Street in Cortez on Saturday, Dec. 7 starting at 6:00 p.m. By Rachel Hughes. Santa Claus is coming to Mancos and Cortez for the upcoming Christmas parades. The City of Cortez will have new office hours, starting in December. The SHIELD616 Angel Armor vest presentation is happening on Monday, December 2nd. You're watching the "Local News Roundup," brought to you by Keesee Motor Company and Blondie's Trophy Room. I'm Connor Shreve. Mancos Valley Chamber of Commerce is hosting its Old-Fashioned Christmas on Friday, December 6th, from 4:00 to 8:00 PM. Festivities include nativity scenes, shops, and galleries at the Mancos Opera House. 1K and 5K runs, chili and hot drinks at the Chuck Wagon, and music by Mancos students at the community center. Get ready for Santa starting at 6:00 PM with Christmas carols, followed by a light parade and tree lighting. And finally, you can finish the night at Fenceline Cider for an ugly sweater contest. The City of Cortez is establishing new office hours to give staff an early start to their weekend. According to City Manager, Drew Sanders, in addition to seeing fewer people in City Hall on Fridays, many staff members were completing their required work hours and tasks by Friday afternoon. Based on the observations, the City of Cortez will be modifying office hours to close at noon on Fridays. This allows staff to leave early while still giving residents access to the city government five days a week. Those new hours will go into effect Monday, December 2nd. The SHIELD616 Angel Armor vest presentation is coming up Monday, December 2nd. The original event, scheduled for November, was postponed due to weather. Two officers will be sharing their experience doing the Tour de SHIELD616, a 273-mile bike ride to raise money to honor Sergeant Michael Moran, who was killed in the line of duty in 2023. It will begin at 6:00 PM at the Cortez City Hall. Space is limited, so you are asked to RSVP. A livestream will also be available to the public for those unable to attend. The Four Corners Board of Realtors' 34th annual Parade of Lights is accepting entries for parade participants. Participation is free and all entry forms must be completed and submitted by Thursday at 5:00. Participants will be judged based on music and lights, creativity, theme development, and workmanship. This year's parade theme is the Gift of Christmas. The parade will be held on Main Street in Cortez on Saturday, December 7th, starting at 6:00 PM. Durango Keeps Ragtime Music Alive

Ragtime music — a blend of European styles and African American rhythms considered the forerunner of jazz — has found an unlikely home in Durango, Colo. For nearly 70 years, the Diamond Bell Saloon at the historic Strater Hotel has featured live ragtime piano, making it one of the only venues in the country where audiences can hear the music performed regularly. A pianist who holds a master's degree in historical musicology from the Peabody Conservatory plays up to six nights a week on an 1902 upright grand piano, calling the experience "time travel" for audiences. Now, that same musician has launched the Durango Ragtime and Early Jazz Festival, now in its second year as a nonprofit. The festival brings approximately seven of the country's top ragtime and early jazz musicians to Durango each year, with the goal of preserving the music and introducing it to new audiences.
