Learn ways to steward your land in the face of climate change and July's Third Thursday performance in Cortez promises to bring some cultural cache. Colorado Parks and Wildlife is hosting three days of archery, fly fishing and shooting education for novice sportswomen later this month at the Jim Olterman Lone Cone State Wildlife Area in Norwood. The Ladies Cast, Blast, and Fling workshop is scheduled from July 28th to July 30th, but only 25 participants will be selected and applications must be submitted by July 14th. Women with little to no experience are welcome, but it is requested that applicants have interest in all three sports. Colorado Parks and Wildlife will provide all gear and food, but participants need to be prepared to supply their own tent and sleeping bag. The event is free but a $40 deposit is required with your application. Contact District Wildlife Manager Kelly Crane for more information. The Montezuma Land Conservancy is hosting a discussion for anyone interested in learning more about the impact climate change is having on our region. It is at Fozzies Farm in Lewis on Thursday, July 13th from 3:00 to 4:00 p.m. The group will share the results from a graphic information systems mapping survey it has completed analyzing the effects of climate change in San Miguel, Delores, and Montezuma counties. The Land Conservancy is hoping to gather input from its findings and generate ideas for future resiliency measures. You can RSVP to the free event through the Montezuma Land Conservancy. July's Third Thursday performance in Cortez promises to bring a different sound to the party. The Cortez Retail Enhancement Association is announcing World Beat and Afro Fusion musician Paa Kow as the act tasked with holding down the beat. He should have no problem with that task. Called the Groove Master, Paa Kow will bring vibes from his native Ghana along with a seven piece band to rock Montezuma Park from 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 20th.
