Pueblo Community College branches out with new forestry courses this month, Mixed in Mancos launched ticket sales and announced the lineup for its annual concert, the Mancos Public Library will host a Lunch and Learn to aid nonprofits in their search for funding. Pueblo Community College Southwest will offer two forestry classes at its Mancos campus, starting Monday, February 17th. According to PCC Natural Resources Coordinator Laurel Smerch, the college offers the courses in response to growing workforce demand for natural resource workers. The first course, Foundations of Forestry, will provide an introduction to the principles of forest science, tree identification, and forest fire behavior. The second course, Forestry Field Techniques, will focus on technician level skills, such as forest surveys and navigation. Additionally, Pueblo Community College Southwest will hold a Wildland Fire Academy on Monday, June 2nd through Saturday, June 7th. Academy graduates will be eligible to apply for an incident qualification card, also called a red card, to work as a wildland firefighter. Tickets are on sale for Mixed in Mancos 2025, presented by the Mancos Creative District. The concert takes place on Saturday, March 8th at the Mancos Opera House. This year's lineup of local bands includes the Lindells, Carute Roma, and Tha 'Yoties. Bands will be recorded and featured on a live album to be released on CD and vinyl. Tickets are expected to sell out and can be purchased on the Mancos Creative District website. Local nonprofit workers are invited to attend a presentation on the Colorado Grants Guide on Thursday, March 6th from noon to 1:00 PM at the Mancos Public Library. Developed in partnership with the Community Resource Center, the Colorado Grant Guide is a database available by subscription for funding opportunities, grant research, and application information.
