The Cortez Cultural Center’s month-long fundraiser and harvest festival, Everybody Eats, begins on Friday, Oct. 4 with exhibits, expos, and events throughout the month. Dolores Public Library’s Friday Fun Day series is getting started with a new topic: “For the Birds.” The Mancos Public Library is screening the film She Rises Up on Friday, Oct. 11 at 6:30 p.m. This month’s event will take place on Friday, Oct. 11 at 1 p.m. Author, ABC News commentator, and child safety activist Elizabeth Smart is coming to speak in Pagosa Springs and Durango on Tuesday, Oct. 8 as part of the Community Foundation’s Making a Difference Speaker Series. Join the Cortez Cultural Center on a culinary adventure during the month of October for its Everybody Eats Festival and Fundraiser. Friday is for the birds, according to the Dolores Public Library with a new Friday Fun Day series beginning this month. The Mancos Public Library is hosting a movie night on Friday, October 11th, and on Tuesday, October 8th, child safety activist, Elizabeth Smart, is sharing her personal story of abduction as part of the community foundation's Making a Difference speaker series. The Cortez Cultural Center is celebrating the harvest season by hosting a month-long festival and fundraiser titled Everybody Eats. During the Month of October, the Cortez Cultural Center will be showcasing the rich agriculture and food traditions of the Southwest region, including a community food resource expo on Friday, October 4th, a dessert auction and social on Saturday, October 5th, and an evening of food tasting and storytelling on the 26th. A curated art exhibit titled Everybody Eats, Harvest Culture and Culinary Adventures will be featured throughout the month with an opening reception Friday, October 4th from 4:00 to 6:00 PM. The exhibit includes art about food and made out of food with a focus on textures, colors, flavors, and cultural significance by local artists. For a full list of events and activities, visit the Everybody Eats website, Dolores Public Library's Friday Fun Day series is getting started with a new topic, birds. Each month throughout the school year, a Mesa Verde and National Park Ranger will be educating students on different bird species, identification, migration, conservation, and more. This month's event will take place on Friday, October 11th at 1:00 PM. The Mancos Public Library is screening the film "She Rises Up" on Friday, October 11th at 6:30 PM. It explores the impact of women on the economy and trade, following three different female entrepreneurs from Sri Lanka, Peru, and Senegal. Author, ABC news commentator and child safety activist, Elizabeth Smart is coming to Southwest Colorado as part of the community foundation's Making a Difference Speaker Series. Smart will share about her personal experience being abducted at age 14, and speak on child safety, victim assistance and recovery. On Tuesday, October 8th, Smart will be speaking at a luncheon in Pagosa Springs from noon to one, followed by a presentation and panel discussion in Durango at the Fort Lewis College Community Concert Hall at 7:00 PM.
