Colorado Parks and Wildlife is partnering with the Mancos Conservation District. The Dolores Jr Rodeo series gives kids of all ages a chance to hone their rodeo skills over the summer, and Burro Fest is back. You're watching the local News Roundup, brought to you by Southwest Health Systems and Fastsigns. I'm Connor Shreve. The Mancos Conservation District is the recipient of a grant from Colorado Parks and Wildlife. Parks and Wildlife says the purpose for the partners in the outdoors grant is to cultivate partnerships that advance and balance outdoor recreation and conservation in Colorado and promote Colorado's outdoor principles. With that in mind, the Mancos Conservation District will host watershed tours, hold a river cleanup focused on the stretch of the Mancos River that runs through town, and promote stewardship events quarterly. The Mancos Conservation District says the grant allows it to continue to hold hands on opportunities for the community to engage in projects that benefit our natural resources. The Dolores County Jr Rodeo series kicks off later this month with events for kids 2 through 19 years old. Kids under 11 perform on Saturdays starting June 24th with events like pole bending, barrels, flag racing, and dummy roping. Kids 12 through 19 get their chance on Sundays with events like goat tying, steer stopping, and a handful of roping events. The Dolores County Jr Rodeo series runs four weekends this summer through August 13th. Admission is free for spectators. The Mancos Creative District will host the fourth annual Burro Fest on Saturday, June 17th from 10:00 AM to 3:00 PM in downtown Mancos. Burro Fest is an annual celebration featuring an animal art market, burro obstacle course, art demonstration, food trucks, and live music. Local artists and burro rescues have the chance to show off their wares, animals, and more at this family-friendly event. The Cortez Public Library's summer reading program kicks off Tuesday, June 20th. Local author Curt Melliger presents his non-fiction book "Where the Weeds Grow: Notes on Wildness" from 4:00 to 5:00 PM at the library.
