Colorado State Thespians has named Nicholaus Sander of Montezuma-Cortez High School as 2024’s Colorado Theater Teacher of the Year. Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance is hosting a night of amateur astronomy at the Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum on Friday, September 6th, starting at 7:00 p.m. RISE Southwest is hosting its third annual Memorial Walk for those who have been affected by suicide. A local teacher has won a statewide award from Colorado Thespians. Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum is hosting an evening of astronomical education and star gazing on Friday, September 6th. RISE Southwest annual memorial walk will take place on Saturday, September 7th. The Dolores Mountain Quilters have shared its list of winners. Colorado State Thespians has named Nicholaus Sandner of Montezuma-Cortez High School as 2024's Colorado Theater Teacher of the Year. Sandner grew up in Durango, graduated from Fort Lewis College, and began teaching in Cortez in 2011. He was nominated by his fellow theater teacher, Angela Gabardi. Sandner will accept his award next month in Denver. Southwest Colorado Canyons Alliance is hosting a night of amateur astronomy at the Canyons of the Ancients Visitor Center and Museum, Friday, September 6th. The event is family-friendly and will feature presentations starting at 7:00 PM and guided star viewing beginning at 9:00. Participants are encouraged to RSVP beforehand and to bring their own telescopes, binoculars, and chairs. RISE Southwest is hosting its third annual memorial walk for those who have been affected by suicide. The walk will take place at Montezuma Park on Saturday, September 7th from 9:00 to 11:00 AM. The walk is designed to raise awareness of suicide as well as support those who have lost loved ones. RISE Southwest will provide a guest speaker, craft station, and breakfast for all participants. The Dolores Mountain Quilter announced the winners and results from its 2024 Quilt Show in August. The show drew nearly 700 attendees, displayed 115 quilts, and raised $5,000 for local nonprofits. Congrats to Darcie Marquez whose quilt won best of show and to Mason Zigler for winning the raffle.
