A series of social and educational winter snowshoe hikes return this week, January 14th. The San Juan Mountain Association is hosting the first of seven snow science and social hikes, offering you the opportunity to learn about ecology, watersheds, climate change, and snowpack. Snowshoes, hot drinks and a bonfire are all provided as part of the interpretive hikes series. The hikes are open to the public, but registration is required. You can sign up online at sjma.org/events. The hikes begin at 1:00 at the Andrews Lake winter parking lot. A fundraiser for Dolores River Stewardship will feature live music, local food, and an auction at the Dolores Community Center January 27th from 6:00 PM to 10:00 PM. The Dolores River Boating Advocates are excited to be able to host its annual fundraiser in person once again. Food from Absolute Bakery and Cafe, local beer from Dolores River Brewery, WildEdge, and Telluride Brewing, and cider from Fenceline, and an assortment of wines will all be available for purchase. Entertainment will include some short films and live music from Tha 'Yoties. Tickets are $12.00 in advance and 15 at the door. Children 12 and under get in free. All proceeds from the event support the group's mission to protect and enrich the recreational and ecological values of the Dolores River through advocacy, stewardship, and education. Buy your tickets and learn more about the Dolores River Stewardship at doloresriverboating.org. The Zu Gallery is hosting a special art show with a food theme to benefit the Good Samaritan Food Pantry. Artists will need to pay $5.00 to enter one to four food themed pieces in the show. That entry fee will go to the food pantry, and then 20% of anything sold also goes to the pantry, though artists will be able to choose to donate a larger portion of their proceeds. Zu Gallery does need artists to fill out the show, with submissions being loaded in on January 31st. An opening reception will be held on February 1st, and art will hang until February 9th. The gallery will also be taking donations of non-perishable food items. You can email questions to meet@zugallery.com. Thanks for watching this edition of the "Local News Roundup." I'm Connor Shreve.
