Cortez celebrates the Festival of Wreaths. Small business advocates are reminding shoppers about the importance of shopping local. And a Christmas tradition continues in Mancos. Keep your eyes open for especially festive holiday wreaths around town for the next few weeks, it could earn you a few extra bucks. The Annual Cortez Festival of Wreaths is underway now, and it lasts until December 4th. Watch for holiday wreaths displayed at local organizations and businesses throughout Cortez. You can play the scavenger hunt to win money in Cortez cash cards and go online to bid on your favorite wreath. You can also take part in the scavenger hunt either on your phone by downloading the Loquiz app or by getting a paper passport. You can do that at the Colorado Welcome Center. Everybody will be entered in the drawing of $1,000 worth of Cortez cash cards, and those can be redeemed at any local business that takes credit cards. The more wreaths you see, the better your chance to win. And the Cortez Retail Enhancement Association is encouraging you to support local business this holiday season. Thanksgiving weekend shopping and dining marks the first three days of holiday shopping starting on Black Friday, November 25th. Small Business Saturday follows with a focus on "Shopping Small, Dining Small" and supporting your favorite small business. National Artist Sunday began in 2020 as a way to encourage buying art for gifts during the holidays. That takes place at galleries and retail locations across the country. You can check out the events at Zu Gallery or Turquoise Raven here in Cortez, and in Mancos, the art market will take place in multiple locations from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM. "Olde fashioned Christmas" will feature a holiday concert by the Mancos Valley Chorus. Santa will make an appearance.
